Why is Hosni Mubarak in a cage?

Hosni Mubarak’s trial has started and I was watching some of the live images and he’s behind a cage. Why is that? Is that the norm in Egypt’s trials or is it the fact that he’s on a hospital bed and cannot be handcuffed?
