Who were the first twins performing as 'one child' on TV?

I was thinking for example of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen playing “Michelle” on Full House all those years ago. I know it is to do with child labor laws, but I was wondering if anyone knows which was the first TV show to use twins in this way, and some more examples of twins that have been used as ‘one child’ on TV shows over the years.
