Is evolution accelerating or are my eyes just getting older?

I remember 7 years ago I was a pup, analysing my cousins 3 year old son and thinking he was a freak of nature because to me he was way smarter than a toddler should have been.
^^FF to this present day and the experiences I have had recently with my 2 year old and that of all my friends (with kids of a similar age) give me the feeling that humanity is progressing at a rate that I cannot conceive.
Am I just getting slow of mind or is each generation getting exceedingly faster?
