When I ask you for fictional female protagonists, who do you think of?

Well-written or poorly written, love them or hate them, obscure or popular: what comes to mind when you think about literary heroines (or antiheroines)?

I want to get an idea of the sorts of answers I might get if I asked this question in a class presentation, so answers related to 20th century literature will be most relevant but I don’t want to limit your thinking.
