Why would HD Access DTA 1030D stop working after a few hours?

1)First it said the signal is too weak so get another antenna, but then a second later pressing one of the buttons the menu, or one the arrows contradicted that, it came on.
2)The auto scanning only found 3 channels instead the of 5 or 6 the without the converter.
3)It worked for a few hours. It may be coincidence but when the VCR started a program recording the converter stopped working. Snow on the screen.
Do you have any knowledge about this product?
