Can some Android Geeks please help me out?

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) September 7th, 2011 from iPhone

A friend of mine just got an Android Tablet and asked me to help him set it up.

So I headed over to Google Android Marketplace and see if I could get some useful Apps.

I figured Google Maps was necessary and free. However, in order to download it, I had to put in my Gmail addy and username cuz it wanted a Google acct. with which to register it.

However, it then refused to go further since “there is no Android phone for this acct.”

Well, there never will be since I have an iPhone and he has a no-name throwaway with no monthly plan.

Have I totally screwed this up. What do I do now? Is there anyway I can totally disconnect my Gmail Acct. from this and just start over from scratch?

And will the Android market continue to be inaccessible since there is no phone and there apparently is not a serial number or whatever on the device.

BTW. It’s an Impression Tablet, if that makes any diff.

Please help. Thanks.
