What would be a good soccer independent study?

I have a student who is a 10th grader in the high school were I work. He is interested in soccer, knows the rules and everything, and wants to do an Independent Study involving soccer in some way. I am no soccer expert and would appreciate any suggestions about projects ranging from one month to six months that he might pursue.
