For those who joined Fluther after the make-over, would you have been as eager to join without the awards?

It may be hard for some to imagine it without all the bells and whistles, but we used to be a community based solely on discussion. There weren’t even categories then – we just asked a question and chatted. The lurve wasn’t even noticeable – it didn’t lead to anything and wasn’t pursued; you simply GQ ‘d someone for asking something – and GA ‘d the jelly above you – or went down the thread GA ing everyone pretty much. Look at some of the old questions with literally hundreds, even thousands of GQ’s and GA’s.

Today, you can find questions with dozens of posts, yet no-one thought it a Great Question? Discussions and even heated arguments which thread along forever – yet no-one thought any a Great Answer? One jelly gets 15 lurve for a quip, the jelly below him zero? Skipping over and popularity contests happen galore. Sad.

There were no awards, and nothing to “look for” back then.

I liked it that way, but that’s just me. I also don’t play games anymore so I don’t care for the treasure hunt aspect of it. I also have vision problems and the simpler the web-page, the better.

But I know it appeals to many jellies, especially those familiar with other sites which have this kind of system.

So, would you have joined nonetheless?
