Which results of the 2011 Global Peace Index for countries do you find most surprising?

Asked by mattbrowne (31732points) January 17th, 2012

Specifically, when you look at this map

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Global_Peace_Index_2011.png

are there any countries for which you have a quite different impression?

“The Global Peace Index (GPI) is an attempt to measure the relative position of nations’ and regions’ peacefulness. It relies on factors such as the number of external and internal wars fought, estimated deaths due to external or internal wars, level of organized internal conflict, relations with neighboring countries, level of perceived criminality in society, level of respect for human rights, potential for terrorist acts and the number of jailed persons.”

Here are my surprises: Uruguay, Vietnam, Bhutan, Rwanda, Mexico, Turkey, and India.

Second question: for which countries do you expect changes (both positive and negative) over the next few years?
