How important is it to apply at a job that relates to your field of study?

I’m an art multi media major. I need a job that pays so internships won’t cut it. My ultimate goal is to be a musician but have the education behind me after my days of music are done and I could just work behind the scenes at news station. Does it make a difference if I work at FedEx versus some place where artist and musicians hang? Thoughts? Perceptions?
