How do I legally gain access to my mothers storage unit?

My mother had had a drug problem for years now…sad I know but unfortunately had stored a tonn of family items baby pictures etc in a storage unit. She has missed many payments and is not available to get in touch with in any way. The locker will go up for auction in 2 weeks and even if I pay it off they will not let me enter the unit to get my property. What do I do? Is there any legal right I have to the unit. Other than having someone buy the locker at auction ( I am out of the state and can’t attend) Any suggestions?
