How do I make a duplicate of Mac Mt. Lion before I install it?

My guru explained today (before he left) to click on Finder—> File—-> Duplicate in order to get a copy since there are no longer discs. This has not worked. So I am leaving the window up without hitting the “install” button. Any ideas? I want to preserve a “Install Mt. Lion” dupe in my Applications Folder.
