How can my friend help his cat?

My friend lives in a country where there are no vets. He took in a stray cat and has been keeping it at home. A few days ago the cat started to limp. It seems to have injured its upper leg and is in some pain. I told my friend to try and bandage the leg but the cat won’t let him touch the effected area. What advice can I give to my friend?
