What makes downloading a video on YouTube such a slow process?

This is my first time posting a video on YouTube. Followed their instructions on modifying the video to suit their system but still, 7 hours later, only 28% has been downloaded. Could the problem be my internet provider, Clear? I also edited the less than 4 minute video in iMovie in my Mac. Is there another site like YouTube I could use maybe? Thanks!
