Did Truman Capote write "To Kill a Mockingbird"?

Asked by josie (30934points) January 4th, 2013

I had my annual Christmas scotch party last week. It is always a hoot. I have friends who love Obama, friends who hate him, friends who think Atlas Shrugged is like the Bible, friends who think it is heresy etc. etc. etc. etc. It is always a great time. Anyway, one of my intellectual friends, who thinks I am a loveable Neanderthal, started talking about the “fact” that Truman Capote wrote or heavily edited To Kill a Mockingbird for his buddy Harper Lee. I read the book in school, so did my kids. It won the Pulitzer prize. But I had never considered or cared about such a thing. I mean, who does not admire Atticus Finch, whoever wrote it. But is it true?
