What might be an intruders typical response be to being wounded by shotgun blast by the home owner?

If an intruder suddenly found himself with a dozen or more flesh wounds, in various body regions, from a shotgun blast delivered by the homeowner, with the understanding that five or more blasts could follow, would this be sufficient to make the intruder give up or flee?
