Opinions on 'The Host' by Stephanie Meyer?

So the second book/series (I am not sure if it is a series or not) by Stephanie Meyer author of the Twilight Saga is about to hit the big screen.
The trailers look pretty decent, and I am a fan of the Twilight saga (though as of two years ago I have a new obsession) but there are undeniably quite a few writing flaws in it. The sparkling which I can only guess came from the dream she had written the series around and the fact that Bella and Edward produced a child to name my biggest issues with it.

So how is ‘The Host’? Story? Characters? How well written is it in comparison toTwilight?
