Would you enjoy a casual, outdoors dinner with strangers ?

We own a lot on a small lake in a nice, gated community for fishing purposes. There is a large amount of space between houses but we don’t have a house. We just go there in hopes of catching one fish and for a change of scenery . Every so often they announce a dinner for the neighborhood residents to get together to eat and chat. I went to one and found it very boring. Would you look forward to such an occasion? If my friends were going, especially my old friends from back east, I’d be dying to go.
