My computer speakers are buzzing? Whats wrong?

They were working two days ago.
Are they old or what?
Cannnot get sound other than buzz noise.
Computer says that is is attatched and OK.
Headset will not work either when I attatch to speakers.
Is it time to purchase new ones?
