How to wear armor to a convention? (For those with cosplay experience)

I know I’m a nerd lol but this question is directed at anyone who might have any cosplaying experience or at least know someone who does.
I already have a costume for the rest of this year, but it is made out of cloth so it’s easy to walk around and be comfortable in. Awesome right? I think I can make it as long as I take my time (over the next 6 months) without getting frustrated. Problem is, how will I even wear this to a convention? I drive or have my boyfriend drive me, but how would I even fit in a car? How do people in general transport their armor costumes in general? They take up a lot of space…
