Why is it that generic nacho cheese tortilla chips never taste as good as Doritos?

They are usually very thin, not very crunchy and go stale as soon as you open the bag. You’d think at least one chip manufacturer could come up with a decent knock off. Does Lay’s prevent it?

I really wish there was a decent, cheaper alternative to Doritos.
