Is this memento fixable or a fire hazard?

Asked by Unbroken (10746points) July 13th, 2013

In the early 00’s that sounds so awkward I was given a glass and metal touch lamp with the three levels of brightness.

Over a dozen moves later this lamp still is externally unmarred by time. It still falls in line with my taste and has a few memories attached to it.

The problem is that though the cord and the lamp are both in like new condition the lamp won’t turn off while plugged in. Well not completely, it started flickering a couple of days ago and I can’t say its constant as when I am in the room it is either already bright or I end up unplugging it, I think.

The bulb doesn’t appear to be the problem it works when it is on all levels of brightness. I did try both tightening and loosening the bulb. Neither proved effective until it is unscrewed enough it doesn’t make the connection on any level.

Can I fix this or is it junk?
