Are these side effects very serious?

Asked by ScottyMcGeester (1897points) July 17th, 2013

I just had my wisdom teeth taken out very early this morning (8am)

Afterwards, the doc prescribed Vicodin (acetaminophen) and Amoxycillin (to prevent/combat any infection I could get from the wounds)

The Vicodin was prescribed every 4 hours. I took it with the amoxycillin around 1 pm. I was fine for a while, and then for about five minutes I got suddenly very warm. I felt nauseous and wanted to throw up. I threw up a tiny bit, more coughing up. I’ve been eating little compared to usual of course today. But then it went away. The pamphlet said any nausea must be from the drugs and to take soda to feel better. So I did.

4 hours later, I took Vicodin again (not the amoxycilin, as it’s 3 times a day) and afterwards I felt nauseous again. Around dinner time, it was time to take the amoxycilin again. About an hour later, I was nauseous a third time and actually threw up some of my dinner. Not a lot. Just like five seconds-worth of throw up.
I’m starting to get a little paranoid and want to double-check if this is all okay. I’ve been looking up stuff on the Internet, and of course run into horror stories. If anything, I can’t quite tell if the reaction I’m having is from the antibiotic or the Vicodin, as side effects of nausea are known to occur on both. But what really worried me and pushed me to ask Fluther was the dosage I realized on the bottle – 750mg. When I checked online, they said to not really exceed 1,000mg a day of Vicodin.

As of right now, I feel fine. After I vomited the nausea went away for good and hasn’t come back. I don’t plan on taking the Vicodin again, as the pamphlet says anyway to take it when the pain is severe. The pain really isn’t “severe”.

I haven’t experienced any other side effects than the feeling warm/nausea/and vomiting, in that exact order. The second time I got nauseous I didn’t throw up though.
