For those familiar with electronics and electricity can you explain what happened last night? (NRQ) Non-religious question.

Last night, or rather this morning, at 2:52 a.m. my television turned itself on with the volume level set to blaring.
It had been off for approximately 4½ hours and when it was turned off the volume was on a normal, sitting quietly on the sofa, evening viewing level.
It wasn’t caused by a loss of electrical service, none of the clocks were flashing. There is a computer on the same circuit (not the same strip) that was not affected.
Other factors; it is on a surge protector strip (one of those with a reset switch), not just plugged directly into the wall outlet, it is hooked up to a cable box, a dvd player and a vcr all of which are plugged into the same strip, it is an older big box Toshiba. Could it have been a power surge? Was it a psychic episode? Why did it not effect the TV upstairs, only the one in the living room or, that I can tell, any other appliances?
