If interviewing for a contractor job, are you going up against others?

I have a question about how a staffing agency works with their client for filling a position.

I interviewed for an Administrative Assistant position with Aerotek, a staffing company. I got pretty far in the running but eventually got denied. Surprisingly, their recruiter submitted me for a position with Nationwide for an entry level HR position she thought I’d be great for. No interview required since I’ve interviewed with Aerotek already I guess. The position is a contract to hire and will begin within two weeks. So I took the required testing and did good.

Still no word. The recruiter told me that they really liked my background but are still waiting on the final word because one additional manager wasn’t present to go over it with them to make the decision.

My recruiter made it sound like I wasn’t going up against other people for this slot. So I’m curious, do you think I have a lot of people I’m going up against? I would love this job…it’s much more pay, closer to home, what I want to do and full time.
