Why are horror movies and slash films so popular?

Horror movies today are extremely graphic and leave little to the imagination. Is there something in our psyche that draws us into watching nightmarish zombie flicks like ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’?

Folks say, “I can’t bear to look” but they do.
