Are there questions you avoid asking on Fluther?

Asked by livelaughlove21 (15724points) February 7th, 2014

This was asked by @Hawaii_Jake back in 2010, so I thought we’d give it another go.

I know some of us avoid asking (or answering) questions on certain controversial topics because we know 1.) we’re in the minority and will probably be torn apart for the question or our opinions on the subject, or 2.) we know it’ll start a war between the two opposing sides and we don’t want to deal with it.

On a related note, are there any particular questions you ask on forums/sites other than Fluther because you know you won’t get the answer you’re looking for here? For example, do you ask questions about health on websites geared for that because you think jellies are just going to tell you to go to the doctor without even reading the details of your question (admit it, you do it!)?

So, have at it. What questions, if any, do you avoid on Fluther?

My Answers
I don’t usually avoid touchy topics, because I love a good argument. I tend to stay away from topics about which I may have an opinion but I don’t feel really strongly regarding the topic, just because those debates get old fast.

I’ve also learned not to ask questions about pets here. I go on a dog forum for that, and it works out much better. The reason for this is simply because there are more people on those forums that know about dogs than there are here. Similar to the medical/health questions, jellies are quick to tell you to take your dog to the vet no matter what the issue is. On the dog forum, they like to offer suggestions on what the problem might be and give advice on how to determine whether a vet visit is in order or not.
