Are there any good comedians?

I have seen Louis CK described as the best comedian. I sure hope not, because I have yet to laugh at anything I have heard him say. I like that he makes a point of not using offensive language, but I find his routines to be lame.

Who else is there? I don’t think of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as standup comedians. Their stuff is okay, but it is mostly reactive. There are no stories. I don’t care for Bill Maher. I find him to be intellectually deficient. I am also not a fan of Amy Schumer or Sarah Silverman.

I am not all that demanding. It was not that long ago that there were plenty of decent comedians. Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen Degeneris and Drew Carey when they did standup. Before them there was a whole range of comics, including Steve Martin, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Tracy Ullman, Dick Gregory, Steve Wright and Henny Youngman.

Is the standup comic a victim of postmodernism?
