Is Sweden, compared to New York City, more gay-friendly?

As is asked above, I’m a gay student and since my country doesn’t take this thing cool, maybe I’ll try to find somewhere else to live in the future.
I’m well educated in my third year in university and is heading abroad. So when it comes to the attitude towards LGBT people, which place do you think is better… NYC or Sweden?
