How do you get from Poughkeepsie, NY to Albany, NY?

My boyfriend is in Poughkeepsie (more specifically Vassar College for a free convention this weekend) and he wants to come see me before he has to go to New York. I work in Albany, so he’d be coming to my job to see me. The only things I am finding that go from there to here is the Amtrak, but it’s giving me really stupid things like making him pay for a trip all the way to Chicago for him to get off at the Rennsalear stop and then bus over to me, which is a ridiculous waste of time and money and is sold out anyway. Can anyone figure out a way here that isn’t by car or Amtrak? I’m having no luck. Greyhound doesn’t go to Poughkeepsie at all, and all other buses I’m finding go from there to NYC, but not the other way to where I am. He was going to get a ride from a friend, but the friend is going to some mall near the White Plains area and can’t bring him with him or anything.

Not a necessity for him to come visit, but it would be nice if he could.

Also, I checked the college’s website and they only offer Amtrak as an option but that’s not possible.
