What is Netflix missing?

I’m wondering if it’s worth getting, and it appears that one can’t look at their selection without actually initiating a subscription.

So, tell me: where does Netflix fall short? I am guessing they don’t have shows from HBO or Showtime; is that correct? Are the complaints that Canadian Netflix is much worse than American Netflix still valid?

If there are better alternatives, I’d be interested in those, too.
