Why aren't we (humans) more supportive of new ideas when it comes to progress?

Asked by Pied_Pfeffer (28141points) April 26th, 2015

Is it the fear of change? Being brain-washed by marketing through various resources? Personal beliefs? Something else?

For context’s sake, I just finished watching a ‘documentary’ called Pump. It specifically addresses why alternative methods of fuel, such as ethanol and methanol are better (cheaper, more environmentally-friendly) than fossil fuels, such as gas and oil.

I understand that, strategically, it takes time to put these changes in action. The question is more about why it takes so long for people to jump on board, or worse fight it, without knowing all of the facts and considering them.

Why not invest in the time to brain-storm on the pros and cons before discrediting an idea?
