Is this the sign of an ear infection?

I just got a 3 month old terrier mix puppy from a rescue center, and she’s gorgeous! Although gorgeous, this puppy was stinky, so I gave her a bath. In the midst of giving her a bath, I was worried I got some water in her ears, but not too worried, considering I tried to avoid her head as much as possible when rinsing.
Just a few moments ago, I came into my room, and she was excited to see me, whining and wagging her tail. So I began to pet her and stroke her ears. Scrunching up my nose, I then noticed a peculiar smell on my hands. It didn’t smell like her, if anything, it reeked of poop. I pet her again, and she started to whine. I wasn’t sure if she was in pain, or still happy to see me. And when I lifted up her ears, I noticed they seemed to be wet, almost like they were leaking water, but maybe not. Did I get water in her ears, or is this a sign of an ear infection? Because I don’t think water in her ears would cause them to reek like this.
