Am I still protected if I am late starting my birth control pack?

Due to the carlessness of my doctor’s office, I couldn’t get my pills in time for two days and then the weekend hit. So I was supposed to start a new birth control pack last Thursday.
I asked the pharmacist how should I go about taking the pills. She said since I just finished my period last week to take two today and I should be good.
But I looked online and I don’t see any article stating I would still be protected. I’m not sure who is correct. I just tried a condom and I hate it, feel nothing.
