Why did using my iPhone for development mean I can no longer sync?

I downloaded the SDK and used the Xcode tool thing and tried to build an app to run on the iPhone, but now I don’t want to do that and my iPhone won’t connet with iTunes anymore. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I can’t restore, because I need it to appear in iTunes to do that!
