Why don't some people/businesses have their own websites and be on social media sites in addition to that?

That is, they only exist on social media/s instead having their own website too. Some people who want to contact them or learn about them, don’t want to go through some or all social media sites. Woudn’t the thing to do be be on social media in addition to having one’s own website? What if something happens to the social media site or if they get blocked for something wrong thing they did etc.?
