Two people love the same person, Love or freindship?

This question is out of curiosity i wanna know what means more to people, If two people love the same person and if the two people had been friends for their whole lives, whats the better choice to follow your heart or stay friends with your friend you’ve known your whole life? What would you honestly do in that situation(you cant have both) and what would be the better choice?Has anyone ever been in that situation and what did you do? How did it turn out?
