Pellets don't kill yard moles, right? You have to use traps, correct?

I wondered why a third of the back yard had only weeds and the grass was gone. I saw a dozen golf ball shaped holes and I now know they’re moles! Do I have to use a mole service that sets traps when we have two dogs? Or is there a way to get rid of them that’s safe with pets? We also have a pile of sand right in front of one of my nicest rose bushes. That has to do with moles or it’s fire ants. Thanks so much in advance.
