Did cotton get expensive?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why does it suddenly seem to be so difficult to find cotton clothing? Perhaps this is only in women’s clothing, I’m not sure about men’s. Everything is poly/spandex/some other blended bullshit. Is it supposed to be superior? More comfortable? More flattering? Am I in a minority that things that is not the case? The only other thing that I can assume is that it is more cost effective to use synthetic or blended fabrics over cotton. I am extremely frustrated and fed up over the state of women’s clothing in the last few years and this is an aspect that I don’t understand.
