Does this comment make any sense to you?

I follow a well known movie critic/pundit on YouTube, and in a Facebook post he wrote: “Always be aware of other people’s opinions, but never pay attention to what they think of yours.”

I think this is a completely asinine idea and it almost goes against the very idea of having an intelligent debate. What are your thoughts?
