Why does Chrome forget stored passwords?

Hi, I know its an odd question, and Í know sometime I knew this; but it’s just a question circling around my head. From time to time, the Chrome browser (or maybe any browser for that matter) forgets the stored passwords from some sites. Anybody know why?
