When someone texts you, do you usually try to respond, if at least with a quick text acknowledging that you saw it?

When you get a text, do you try to respond and acknowledge that you received the text? For example, at the minimum by responding “ok” or something like that?

I have a friend who will tell me days later she saw my text about something. She’s not one to look at her phone so with her, I never know if she sees my texts or not until I see her and we’ll talk about it.

My boss, she is always looking at her phone incessantly but doesn’t always respond to texts. We can text her if we’re going to be out but she won’t always respond, and it’s nice to know for sure when a text like that is received. Lately, I will say in the text “please respond or I’ll call you if I don’t see a response.” This was because once I texted that I’d be out and she responded hours later that her phone put the time stamp on the text at 8:30 in the morning but she didn’t actually receive the text until 11:30. Since she’s always looking at her phone and touching it, I felt like maybe she did receive the text at 8:30 like the time stamp said but she must not have really looked at it. She wasn’t mad, but if she would respond to acknowledge that would be eliminated. Since then, she responds to acknowledge receipt.
