Pelosi is holding up aid to unemployed Americans in order to secure help for state and local government. Should she throw in the towel?
Pelosi and Mnuchin have been negotiating a new coronavirus relief package for several months now. The House passed a $3.2 trillion package that was DOA in the Senate. After several rounds of negotiations with the White House, the best Republican counteroffer was $1 trillion. Yesterday, the House passed a trimmed-down version totaling $2.4 trillion. The White House has upped its offer to about $1.5 trillion. The good news is the two are still talking.
The major sticking points seem to be the amount of federal assistance to the unemployed on top of state unemployment compensation, direct payments to Americans, liability protection
for businesses against covid claims and aid to state and local governments.
How much time are you willing to give Pelosi before saying: “Enough already!”
