Are the Baby Boomers the problem in American politics?

I have a friend who thinks the reason someone like Trump can get elected is because of the baby boomers. My friend is in her early 50’s, and she is what I would call a moderate Republican. She voted for Biden this election. She feels the baby boomer generation needs to retire, and that they are voting irrationally. That their concerns are not always relevant in today’s world, and they are too resistant to change. I think she might have meant that they should not be running for office anymore either, but I am not sure.

I personally don’t necessarily embrace her idea that it is the boomers’ fault. Most boomers I know are Democrats so maybe that is why my perspective is different. I do agree it would help the country if they retire if they are financially able, because young people need the jobs. If they own a business and employ others or are self employed that is different I guess. I do not believe in any sort of forced retirement though. I also see great value in the work and wisdom older people can offer.

How do you feel about that generation and do you blame them for Trump being our president? Do you think Boomers should not be running for president?
