Did you have to do a state report in grade school?

At least in the school system I grew up in, students had to do a report on a U.S. state: a full profile of the state, from maps to climate to exports. I think it was in fifth grade, but maybe fourth or sixth. I remember doing a slow, careful copy by hand of the map I saw in the encyclopedia.

This was when the American flag still had only 48 stars.

If you did a state report, what state did you do, and what state did you live in at the time?

I lived in Massachusetts, and for some forgotten reason I chose to report on California, never once imagining I might live there myself one day.
