Is it legal to drive and talk on the phone using my iPhone headset - with the buds in both ears?

Please don’t tell me it’s bad to talk and drive.

My friend told me that it’s illegal to have an earpiece in both ears. I wasn’t sure whether to believe them. So I’m asking you. I live in California.
