Can somone help me get my audio working on my laptop?
I have an HP pavilion dv8300 cto and I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP. I had a couple issues with drivers i had to track down and install myself which wasnt too much of an issue. Problem is, my audio still isnt working. I went to HPs site and downloaded both audio drivers.
“Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp32646) ” installs without a problem, but “Conexant High Definition Audio Driver ” installs but during the initializing stage it fails and says “Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver.”
I also tried going to the device manager and saw there was one item that was an unidentified PCI Device (which i would assume to be the sound card) so i uninstalled that and tried rebooting the comp. But that was to no avail as well.
I think its also important to note that my laptop has some quick buttons above the keyboard for starting a DVD and also for lowering raising and muting the sound. Those buttons dont work either, now i dont know if they dont work because theres just “no sound card” or if they are part of the problem. I tried installing the drivers for them as well, it said it worked, but unno.
I dont really know if this matters or not, but the speaker bar on the laptop is made by altec lansing. I tried looking on their site for a driver there as well, but i have no way of figuring out which model i have so thats kind of a dead end.
I also tried calling HP to ask if they could tell me what the problem could be but they said i had to pay 50 dollars to talk to a tech since its out of warranty even if was going to fix it all myself, so obviously that option is out.
