What is it about the shape of a ball?

My son (who’s 2) is obsessed with anything round and more specifically ball shaped… but he’s also obsessed with circles too… I’m wondering what it is about them that he enjoys and is drawn to so much? And if in fact it is the shape Maybe it’s something else?
Surely there’s something more to it than simply they are good for games…
Is it because the world is round?
Is it a sense of infinity – completeness?
Is it the physical feel?
