Can any physician perform an abortion?

I’m skeptical that “any physician can perform an abortion,” but I’m having trouble backing up my skepticism with credible facts. I assume that abortions are specialized and require some standardized training in the gynecological field. Is this correct, or am I mistaken? If so, then is it really possible for someone to go into an ER and request an abortion, even if their life isn’t at stake?

To be clear, I nor anyone I know is looking for an abortion at the moment, so I’m not looking into getting one properly. There are just a few points that were made in a conversation that happened due to recent news, and I can’t help but wonder if my skepticism is well-founded.
