In Photoshop what is causing my settings to change?

I have been a Photoshop user for years and lately much to my vexation the settings are changing in CS2.

For instance I added a grid view for a short time on a project and now every image that opens has the grid.

Also my magnifying glass now is in negative to reduce instead of positive and I need to hold the option key to use it.

I have looked on forums without success. Perhaps it is because it is a simple fix and I am the only person on the planet who does not know it.

Any help would be appreciated as it is annoying to have to take the extra steps when editing dozens of images.
